SS : The Moment Is Coming Part 1

3 weeks later.....

The phone shrilled into the silence.

Garima quickly jumped to answer before it woke the household up.

"Hello?"

"Hello? Goodmorning Amma..."

"Payal? Why so early? Is the baby alright? Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, I just wanted to ask if you all would come to dinner tonight? It's been a week, and Simmy's colic has calmed down...and ofcourse I've been missing you..."

"Oh I would love to, but...um...Khushi came home from her Patisserie Convention last night...she's home..."

There was a slight pause...

"Well...I would like to invite ALL of you then...I have missed Khushi so much...and she's only seen Sim once since he was born..."

"I don't know if that is a good idea..."

"Amma, I know that a lot has happened, but I miss her. Everyone here misses her..."

Garima pondered, she knew that Khushi had recovered quite well...

She knew that she couldn't keep family away...

"I will ask her..."

Payal audibly sighed...

"Thankyou Amma..."

"Will he be there...?"

"Yes...but you've seen him Amma, he's a mess...he wouldn't do anything to hurt her..."

"I know...I just hurt for her...I want her happiness..."

"We all do..."

...............

"The moment has come for me to try. I am willing to go."

Garima and Buaji stared at Khushi, completely dumbfounded.

"You, you will? Khushi, we aren't pushing you, please know that I didn't tell you this to try and force you or..."

"Amma," Khushi took her hand in her own, "I know you weren't trying to guilt me. It's been over a year...and I am okay. Truly."

Buaji planted her hands on her hips, "Stubborn girl. Well Garima, it is true. She's been an absolute gem, and has overcome a lot. I think that if she says she wants to, then we should let her make her own decision."

Garima pulled Khushi into an embrace..."I just love you so much. I hurt for all that you've been through..."

"I don't blame him Amma...I probably should, but he has been so hurt in his life...he has been so misled, has held onto so much pain and anger...yes, he hurt me...but I can't hurt him back...I can only let go..."

..........

Arnav felt a heat spread through him..."Here? Tonight?"

Anjali and Payal nodded, "Is that okay with y-"

"Okay!?" he barked out.

They were momentarily stunned.

Arnav hadn't raised his voice towards ANYONE in the home in a very long time.

"OKAY?!'

His voice mocked them angrily.

'This is HER home. MORESO than it is YOURS," he glared into Payal's eyes, "And MORESO than it is YOURS!" he glared into Anjali's eyes...

Anjali felt no anger.

Neither did Payal.

They were in awe of a power that had started to return.

A fight that began to blaze in his eyes.

'My...My...Kh...Khushi...KHUSHI is more welcome here than anyone!"

Unable to control his emotions any longer, he broke.

Fleeing the scene, he raced up to his room and shut the door.

"She's coming here...home...to me...no..."

Realization dawned once more...

"Not to me..."

And the pain returned...

Gut wrenching sobs howled from his chest, and within seconds, Anjali and Akash were by his side...

He clung to their arms, "I'm sorry, I am so sorry!"

"Chote, Shhh...no one is angry with you...you reacted out of honor, KHUSHI'S honor..."

"Bhai, calm yourself...please..."

..........

"Are you sure?"

Khushi smiled, "Yes, I'm okay. I am anxious to see everyone..."

Even though Khushi knew what was coming, she felt the dhak dhak of her heart take an interesting turn...

It was as though a surge of fire had taken light inside her...

A nerve that she thought was singed, now twinged into existance...

The moment was coming...

And she took the first step towards the Raizada Mansion front door...

..............

After a thoroughly tumultuous day, Arnav could no more have been prepared for this night than he would have been for an earthquake.

But as the knock sounded on the door, the only thing he prayed for was to see her smile...

Payal opened the door, and the greetings began.

He didn't look over, couldn't bare to see her, or be disappointed had she decided not to come.

But sure enough, after Garima had cooed over Sim, and Buaji had blasted her 'hellos', a soft voice drifted over the roar and filled his heart and soul...

"I am so pleased I came tonight, I have missed you Jiji...and you Di, Akash, Nani...and my nephew..."

And it was time...

Her eyes lifted and she saw the man in the distance.

But instead of Arnav Singh Raizada, she saw a man who looked raggedly tired and weary, look up slowly into her eyes, his own pained and lost.

He felt her eyes on him, and he finally lifted his gaze...

Oh... my God...she's here...she's...beautiful...

Khushi and the family began to walk towards him...

As they grew nearer, he tried to summon his voice...

"Khushi," he croaked out, looking around aimlessly and breathing heavily before focusing once again on her…

She took in his miserable appearance and suddenly felt the unwanted urge to lurch forward and pull him into her arms.

Arnav's thoughts were mirroring hers…

He wanted to wrap his arms firmly around her, hugging her tightly to himself…

Her mere existence was now the only thing keeping him grounded and he feared he might float away any moment into oblivion if she refused to acknowledge him…

Finally, after a devastating few seconds, she whispered…"Hello…"

Khushi tightened her grip on Payal's hand and walked past him down the hallway towards the family, who now waited for them in the lounge…

Arnav quickly took two steps forwards and opened the front door, shutting it quietly behind him…

Then, leaning back against it, the heartbreaking realization shot through him and his body began to shudder as he slowly fell apart, sobbing uncontrollably into his hands…

"…how…how will…will I ever…ever…" he coughed, feeling almost sick with pain…

Side stepping, he stared through the window, looking at his wife, who was still so far away despite being so close…

"…How will I ever get her back? After what I did…after what I drove her to…"

Her image faded slightly as his focus now zoned in on his reflection in the glass…

His face was grief-stricken face, his lower lip shuddering in pent- up mourning.

"I tortured her, I hurt her…then I finally marry her…and then…" He seemed defeated, taking a long while before he finally managed to breathe out his inner turmoil…

"I'm a fucking idiot…How DARE I spend so much time with that CUNT of a woman and ignore MY wife…RRRAAAAARRGGGHHH!!!!!"

His body trembled violently as he rammed his clenched fist into the concrete wall beside him, flexing the scraped flesh of his hand as though he could keep his pain in.

Suddenly, a dam seemed to break within him, and mumbled, angry words came streaming out of his mouth nonsensically.

"My actions…nearly…nearly killed her…! She thought that I…that Sheetal and I …that Aarav was my…my son and …and I spent so much time with her…and because of this I...I lost my…FUCK no…my Khushi..."

The pain and anger poured out in tears and shouts.

Finally, after what could have been hours or minutes, his sobs slowed, and his hands gradually, released tension.

He kept his eyes turned down as he tried to stand tall, taking deep breaths to calm himself.

"No…" He looked up, and saw the only thing that could ever ignite a glimmer of hope into his life…"…she's mine…I can't just…she's still…my wife…"

Her presence brought hope back to his deadened eyes.

………………….

As Arnav walked back inside, the family tried to keep calm…

Khushi's frail emotions were fresh in their minds.

Arnav, however, stayed quiet as he stood next to Akash…

"How about we be seated, we have your favorite foods prepared Khushiji…"

Khushi bit her lip, but nodded…"Okay, can…can I freshed up first please?"

Payal stood slightly behind Khushi and her expression tried to warn everyone not to overreact…

Anjali understood, and smiled, "Sure, do…do you um…remember where the guest bathroom is?"

"Yes…I'll be right back…"

As she walked away, Arnav could only see her walk towards a bathroom…towards a room where he almost lost her…

He made a move and was soon restrained by Anjali and Akash…

"No Bhai…"

"No Chote…"

His heartbeat picked up with frightening speed, "I can't let her…let her do it again…"

Payal commanded his gaze, "She's only going to wash her hands, she's alright Arnavji…"

"I hurt her…she's…I can't…Payal I need to go with her…"

"Bhai, it's OKAY, just take a deep breath…"

But Arnav was nearly on the verge of a panic attack…

"She's…She's…Di…" his eyes were pleading…"Di let me go…Akash…I…"

"Let him go."

All eyes darted to Garima…

"What?! Amma what are you saying?"

Her eyes were gentle, understanding…"Look at him…"

Arnav's gaze was still on Khushi, who was almost out of sight…

"Look at him! He's going through hell! His memories are tormenting him! And despite what has happened, he loves her! If ANY of you, after looking at his pain, can say that he should stay here, then I will keep quiet."

Anjali felt tears pour out of her eyes seeing her brother…

Akash glanced at Payal who nodded…

The second he was released, he breathed out a shaking gasp…"I just want to make sure…sure that she is… okay…please?" his powerful exterior was broken, shattered…"Please…please may I?"

Garima smiled sadly, "Go…be gentle with her though…"

Without uttering another word, he slowly began to walk away…

His steps growing longer and faster…

………………….

Khushi shut the door behind her…

This is so strange…

Her thoughts were in complete disarray…

I haven't been here since…

Memories flooded in…

"No Khushi…that is in the past…yes, I did it, but I am not in that place anymore…"

She took a deep breath and calmed her nerves…

Meeting her stare head on in the mirror, she was unblinking as she spoke, "how far have you come? A long way. You are not where you were before. You have made new friends. You have learned to look after yourself better. You have let go of all the old feelings."

Her eyes slid closed…

"Then why have I started to hurt again?...why am I feeling pain…pain that isn't my own…? I put him out of my heart…"

But even as she stood there, there was a heart beating outside the bathroom, that beat right alongside hers…

Love, even when let go, is never fully lost…

The reawakening had begun…

Opening the bathroom door, she cautiously walked out…

Surveying the hallway, she took her first step forwards…

But as she moved past her old bedroom, she saw the unmistakable shadow…of her husband.

Arnav had stood outside the bathroom, listening to the running water, hearing her soft footsteps, then hurried back to his room…

He tried to keep his panting breath as quiet as he could…

Khushi willed herself to keep walking, but her body would not obey.

"Arnavji?"

His shadow visibly stiffened and she could hear his ragged breathing…

"Yes...it's me...I'm sorry...I'm here…I'm…I'm not trying to scare you…I just…I wanted to make sure you were okay…"

His voice was unrecognizeable…

Unknowingly, she had walked closer, "I understand…I'm alright…"

His hand rested on the door handle, and he nervously opened the door…

PRECAP -

Despite the sheer panic and fear in his heart, he's clumsy as he presses his mouth against hers, breathing her air…

Even though her own anxiety was ripping into her heart, she could taste the sorrow on his lips.

Grief has slowed him, paralysed him, but his heart controlled his actions…

His mouth attached firmly to hers, seeking desperately…

Memory instantly jumbled with the present and she began to pull away…

Oh my God…what is happening!

"Please…please Khushi…" he said in despair…

She tried to back away once more…"No...n…no…"

His lips were still brushing against hers as he begged, "Don't…don't…please Khushi…"

  8. Incredible writer like you... Oh How I miss your work. Love this part. It was so emotional, deep with feelings from both sides. How Arnav cursed himself for hurting this gem and Khushi was scared to acknowledge these feelings. She was and is completely lost. Thank you so much. Waiting for the next update.
